Its prices can vary everyday but still people like to buy them and enjoy them thoroughly.

Prawns fry are prepared in many different style. But this particular Prawns fry made using rava or semolina is the mainly famous around konkan coast (goa, karwar, mangalore etc) . Prawns rava fry is usually served in seafood thali or simply served with hot rice and prawns curry.  In addition, this recipe can also be served as an yummy starter along side of hot drinks too.

Prawns fry is an easy and delicious recipe, prepared with basic available ingredients in the kitchen. The main ingredient is semolina or rava which act as the hero to the recipe. It gives the crunch and makes the dish more delicious. I like to also add little rice flour to the prawns, as it binds all the masala well and also gives extra crunch to the recipe. This is totally optional, but I like to add in all my seafood fry recipe. It works great for me. Even you can try out this tip in your future cooking. Not much wait, lets start with the recipe.

  • Tiger prawns - 500 gm ( There were about 12 pieces)
  • Red chilly powder - 1&1/2 tbsp (I used kashmiri red chilly)
  • Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • lemon juice - 2 tbsp or tamarind paste - 1 tbsp
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1&1/2 tbsp
  • Rice flour - 1 tbsp
  • Rava- 1/2 cup (to roll over prawns)
  • Salt - to taste.

These are the beautiful tiger prawns ..Aren't they mouthwatering?

Firstly clean the prawns thoroughly in the running water. Then cut their moustaches(ha ha...) and all  their tiny legs. Also cut their head (mainly their eye part). Then shell out each prawns.

Now you need to de vein them . This is simple, you need to slit prawns at their back and pull out thin black thread kind and the prawns are deveined.   Clean it for another time thoroughly in water to avoid any sand residues in the recipe after deveining them.

Marinate the prawns with salt, red chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt. Keep it aside for 15 minutes.

Then add remaining ingredients. Mix everything well.

At the time of frying, add rice flour to the marinated prawns.

Spread rava or semolina in the plate. Now roll each prawns in the rava or semolina as shown in above picture.

Heat tava (griddle) on the medium flame and spread oil all over the tava(griddle). Place the rava coated prawns on the heated tava and fry them on each side until crispy or till you get nice golden colour on it.

Here you go. Prawns Rava Fry is ready to serve. Serve hot fried prawns with hot rice and any choice of your curry.
